In a major boon to the Australian Caravan Club's (ACC) 4400 members, the club has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Caravan Council of Australia (CCA), giving members unprecedented help to resolve compliance and engineering issues with dealers and manufactures.

The MOU allows ACC members seeking in-depth advice on the construction and maintenance of their RVs have direct access to a qualified engineer through the CCA. It also allows the ACC to use CCA technical and other articles.

The not-for-profit ACC focuses on giving members general advice on the construction and maintenance of their RVs, while the CCA focuses on RV compliance, safety, quality and manufacturing issues.

In a joint statement released today, ACC chairman Craig Humphrey and Honorary General Manager of the CCA Colin Young said: "We are pleased to announce that an MOU has been signed".

Under the agreement, the ACC may refer members to the CCA for help resolving disputes  with RV dealers or manufacturers arising from major defective manufacturing compliance and safety issues.

"If the CCA considers that an ACC member may benefit from the provision of an engineering assessment of the affected RV, one will be provided," Mr Young said.

"If the defect is assessed as a significant compliance, quality or build safety issue at the point of manufacture, the CCA will refer the member to a solicitor for a 30 minute free consultation on the options available to them for remedy."

The MOU commenced on May 1 and will run for a trial period of 12 months, with an option to renew for a further 12 months.

"With the objectives of both the ACC and the CCA both focussed on the education and safety of RVers on the road, our organisations look forward to a rewarding and fulfilling year ahead working together for the benefit of all RVers, not just ACC members," Mr Humphrey and Mr Young said.
