Drive through parking for vanners at Carnarvon Gorge NP

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services has set aside 15 large drive-through bays for day visitors towing with a caravan or camper trailer to the Carnarvon Gorge NP.

The sites were established as part of $1.8 million overhaul of the Carnarvon Visitor Centre, opened by Tamara O’Shea, the director-general of the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing in July.

A spokesperson for the QPWS said the day-use bays were located at the entrance to the car park for drivers’ convenience.

The authority said the Gorge camping sites, which are open during three holiday periods each year, remain exclusively for tents, small campervans and trailers, and urged travellers to avoid camping on flat ground near creek crossings within the park, due to the risk of flash flooding.
