Caravan production hits 37-year high
More caravans were built in Australia last year than in any other year for the past 37 years.
Australia's caravan industry continues to buck the national manufacturing trend with its continued growth, resulting in its highest production level in 37 years in the year to January 2016, according to new data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The comparable growth in caravan registrations over the same period shows the new caravans are not being over-supplied and are not sitting around un-sold. A five per cent increase in caravan registrations last year shows that manufacturers are building more vans to meet the increasing customer demand, and those vans are being bought, registered and used to tour Australia.
The same figures show the caravan and camping industry contributed $8.6 billion to the tourism economy, and that the caravan and camping accommodation sector also grew by another five per cent.
