Future of Design & Innovation Awards presented by BMPRO

Innovation Awards

The Emprise Group is proud to launch the inaugural Emprise ‘Future of Design & Innovation Awards’ presented by BMPRO.

The ‘Future of Design & Innovation Awards’ have been created to help create a pathway for talented students to identify with the caravan and camping segment by applying their expertise to tackle today’s product gaps, or to create the products of tomorrow.

The awards give science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students an opportunity to create futuristic RV design and innovation concepts. With an open creative brief, students will be invited to think outside the square and come up with designs which will set the benchmark in product design, process improvement or product refinement.

In collaboration with BMPRO a leading supplier of power, battery management and control systems specifically for the RV market.; and innovation consultant and former head of manufacturing and engineering of TAFE NSW, Peter Smith, the Awards will be a vital collaboration between industry and the next generation of engineers and designers.

Entries will be independently judged, and the winning designer will have his or her designs showcased across the Emprise brands and presented direct to key industry partners. The winner will also be officially awarded in front of industry at ‘The Adventures Awards’ in early 2019.

BMPRO is the lead sponsor of the inaugural Awards and has played a vital role in shaping the concept for the Awards. CEO, Louise Bayliss, will also lend her expertise as one of the Awards’ judges.

Born by the innovative spirit of our parent company Setec, with 50 years’ experience in power solutions in australia, bred in Melbourne and inspired by the great Australian outdoors, we are number one in RV power management. we are bmpro, your battery management professionals.

BMPRO offer an innovative range of rugged, smart and reliable power solutions for your RV, from battery chargers to DC-DC chargers to battery monitors and power management systems, aiming to give travellers peace of mind when they are on the road, no matter how far their 4WD, caravan or boat adventures take them.

The Australian Recreational Vehicle (or RV) space has been home to some amazing and ingenuous innovation over the past 50 years. With over 615,000 registered RVs in Australia and up to 40,000 new vehicles entering the market each year, it is fair to say the market is booming.

… as with all industries today, particularly manufacturing industries, the need to innovate and change is more important than ever. The Emprise Group and our partners have identified the need to keep raising the bar in the products we produce and the talent we introduce into our marketplace. Standing still is not an option.

Following discussions with key industry bodies, governments, manufacturers and suppliers in the market, we have identified some key areas where the consumers are seeking innovation and the BMPRO Innovation Awards has been designed to spark the interest of our tertiary sector who have not seen the production of a caravan, RV or the components in and around the product as a clear career pathway. While our friends in the automotive space, who generally tow our products and face many of the same design & regulatory challenges, are facing their own disruption, it's time to shine for our marketplace.

In order to participate in the BMPRO Innovation Awards, your application must address one or more of these themes with the intention that you will solve a current market problem or identify and solve a future state challenge for the next generation of RVs.
Applicants are asked to develop their concept around one of the following categories where the industry has identified the opportunity (or the need) to innovate:

  • Improving safety -road safety is a key policy position of Australian governments and providing innovative solutions which will assist in the safety of RVs on the road (or off them) will be a key pillar of innovation in coming years.

  • Enhancing the quality or standards of an RV - identifying areas where the product quality or materials used can be done to meet consumer demand will help shape the way RVs are built. Be it accessories, materials or new product concepts - the future will no doubt be different - but how?

  • Connectivity/connected devices - technology and connected applications will shape the consumer / driver experience of RVs into the future, what innovative applications will shape that driver experience or enhance the consumer experience at the destination?

  • Accessibility - with an ageing population and a more mainstream acceptance of RVing, the need to provide better accessibility for older consumers or those with specific accessibility needs will be key differentiation points for products who innovate in that space.

  • Efficiency/sustainability - with a variety of sustainability programs in place across the market, the ability for RVs to minimise their environmental impact will be critical in the eyes of consumers, regulators and the industry itself.

  • Adapting to the rise of the autonomous vehicle - as autonomous vehicles become the future state of motor vehicles, what will the impact be on RVs and Caravan design - what do we need to allow for in the tow vehicles or the RVs to adapt to this change?

To participate in the Future of Design Award, you must:
