Blog: Balcony living... in a van?
SkyDeck has hit the market, and it's already changing the way we look at caravans...
THOSE OF YOU who have been hiding under rocks lately (or, perhaps more accurately, touring around them) may be shocked by the above image.
No, it’s not a digitally rendered image… what you’re looking at is an innovation in RV engineering, and one that could change the way we live in our caravans, particularly in bad weather.
The SkyDeck is literally a caravan verandah – a balcony that makes use of the space on the A-frame to incorporate an extra undercover living space, with decking and all. It folds away for travel as shown, and adds about 3.5sqm of floorspace to a van. Marvellous.
Designed and engineered by 32-year-old Brett Bell from Melbourne Caravan Repairs, SkyDeck made its debut at a smattering of this year’s shows, and needless to say has been turning heads at every corner.
We're pretty excited by all this. That's why we’ve featured this amazing creation on the cover of our July issue, and included an expert review and real-life test within the pages of the issue. To get the goss on SkyDeck, grab your copy from Wednesday, and in the meantime, click here to see the video.
