From the road: Cutting-edge soft-roader's regional debut
The sleek offering from Australia's newest caravan manufacturer will show at Bendigo Leisurefest this month.
REMEMBER THIS SLEEK, aerodynamic little number? That’s right, it’s the first foray into RV design for Aussie carmaker Bolwell, and this month it will be on show for the first time outside of Melbourne.
We’re certain the Bolwell Edge will turn a lot of heads at the upcoming Bendigo Leisurefest. In last month’s issue, we took a peek at the prototype and found that this compact, contemporary van is built on a foundation of manufacturing and engineering expertise.
WHAT'S THE FUSS?
In terms of design, the Edge really is the iPod of this year’s new vans. It is energetic and eye-catching, and the interior is sophisticated in its minimalism. Bolwell calls the van a "luxury soft-roader". It has an ATM of 1560kg and body length of 4.75m (15ft 7in), as well as a uniquely curvy physique and a pop-top roof made from tear-proof Kevlar.
The body is combines cutting-edge fibres plucked from the RV, boat and motoring industries that render it largely impervious to rocks and other offroad side-effects – so the glossy van is surprisingly ready for rough treatment. The projected pricetag of $45,000 places it somewhere between practical and comfortable.
INTEREST FROM CAMPERS
Marketing director Owen Bolwell says that since the new model made its Melbourne debut, Bolwell RV has been "blown away" by the response.
"The strongest interest is from people who have had rugged offroad camper trailers and want to move on to something more comfortable and luxurious," Bolwell says.
You can’t argue that the Edge ticks a lot of boxes, and breaks a few conventions along the way.
Head to Bendigo for a closer look. Leisurefest is on from 19 – 21 November 2010. For tickets and more info, visit the Leisurefest website.
