Anyone reading the news lately will know that there are component shortages in just about any industry you care to name, including the Recreational Vehicle industry and, of course, just about the entire motor industry.
One of the results of the caravan industry continually producing heavy caravans is that the Toyota LandCruiser 200/300 series has very much become the vehicle of choice for towing. There are certainly some good reasons for that, including its tow ratings and weight, but it’s just slightly ironic that in Australia, a vehicle designed mostly for offroad use is commonly seen towing caravans around the country.
There’s just one problem at the moment though. Toyota like many others, is struggling with component supply issues and not so long ago advised that until further notice, it would not be taking any LandCruiser 300 orders. Not just order delays but no delivery anytime soon which is a fairly radical step for any manufacturer. Just in case you are perhaps thinking that the 70 series might be an acceptable alternative, don’t get excited because Toyota isn’t taking orders for those either.
Along with the rise in fuel prices, the effect on the RV industry remains to be seen. It may well have a braking effect, so to speak, on the current demand for product, which in many cases currently has order books well out into next year.
