10 Nov 2009 | Are there enough?

In the December edition of Caravan World with Motorhome World magazine, Street Talk columnist Malcolm Street raises the issue of dump points.

"The Kiwis seem to be ahead of Australia in this department – there are plenty of dump points around NZ and they are generally easily accessible," writes Malcolm.

Do you agree? Are there enough dump points around Australia? And are they readily accessible? Share your thoughts...

Yes, every main street should have at least 5 dump points, all national parks in fact why not put them all over the place, in the suburbs,to cater for those too damned lazy to use park toilets. how about making the dump point the entry statement to all towns and cities. That would please some RVers.

There should be more-both in parks & at approaches to towns.
Also not placed in laundries as seems to be the case in may WA parks.

yes there should be more dump points - being out of caravan parks for convenience as we travel - its obviuos this is the way to go for the future if we are to be seen as a clean and green travelling community.

There should be more dump points beside or near main roads available to travellers,(not just in
c/van for paying patrons).

Need more, but not necessarily in caravan parks- perhaps rest stops and picnic grounds as well.
Also need to be clearly signed and lit for ease of access, particularly after dark.

Thanks,

Cliff & Jill Cole.

NO. It should be the responsibilty of every shire or town council to provide a dump point. Ceduna in SA should be congratulated for its easy to use (complete with water hose) and find dump point. It would encourage people to do the right thing and people would stay in town as opposed to bush camping - you can only guess what they do with their cassette contents, unlikely they would bring it to town when they visited.

We have just got back home from being away &we cameover 2 places that had dump points in parks we stopped for lunch. That was great as we did not have to go into caravan parks. More of these are needed, not everyone stays in parks.

Definitely not enough. every caravan park should have a well designed Dump point. I have seen some that uphill from where a campervan would be parked and making it difficult to use.
Some parks say it is ok to empty toilet cassette in the amenities block, but this is a bit awkward due tio the smell.

Having travelled parts of Western Australia a few months ago, NO, there are not enough dump points at all. There were five of us in a Motorhome so the cassette had to be emptied often. My son and his family travelled half the block in eighteen months and he couldn't find enough dump points either. We definately need more. Evelyn.
