CGear Multimat: The perfect outdoor camping mat

CGear Multimat: The perfect outdoor camping mat - Caravan World Australia

Australia is a land made for adventures, and having the right gear with you when you head off on your next camping trip can make all the difference. CGear is a proudly Australian owned company, and designs camping gear specifically to withstand Australian conditions – with a particular focus on allowing you to enjoy the beautiful outdoors without sand, dirt and dust creeping their way into your outdoor living areas.

Multimat

Enjoy a clean and comfortable outdoor space with the CGear Multimat. As the company’s bestselling product, the Multimat's magic is that it uses CGear's patented double-layer material technology that allows sand and dirt to travel through the mat but not back up, which is perfect for any campsite, whether you’re heading into the outback or onto the beach. The original design of the CGear Multimat was to remove excess dirt and debris from helicopter landing sites, and CGear soon realised how effective and helpful this technology would be at camping sites.

Available in a large range of sizes, ranging from the 1m x 1m Mini Mat to 6m x 6m, the Multimat is also extremely versatile and can also be used as a shade mat (with 90 per cent + UV protection), windbreak —s imply use the D-Rings to secure it however you need. Or place it inside of your tent to create a dirt-free haven. The mat also comes with its own drawstring carry bag and simply needs to be brushed and shaken out before folding away. Prices range from $49 to $539.

Privacy Screen

The CGear Privacy Screen is another handy product that can make all the difference when setting up camp. The Screen is made of a single layer of lightweight, durable shade cloth, meaning it cuts 90 per cent of the sun's harmful UV and protects your privacy. The screen features a sewn-in rope track so you can easily connect to the barrel of your awning. Then simply secure the screen to the ground using the D-Ring tie points to provide protection and privacy without loss of ventilation. The Privacy Screen is compatible with popular awning brands and comes in various sizes. Angled End Drop screens are also available. If your campsite already enjoys plenty of privacy, the screen can also be used as a shade mat or windbreak.

L-Shaped Multimat

The latest addition to CGear’s camping range, the L-Shaped Multimat, is the perfect companion for anyone travelling with a van in tow. The L-Shape design was created to fit perfectly around the side and back of your caravan, camper trailer or vehicle, allowing you to access all your camper’s rear or front features within the comfort of your clean outdoor living area. Simply reverse, flip or rotate the mat to suit your particular setup.

The CGear L-shaped camper mat is available in three sizes 4m x 4m, 5.5m x 4m, 7m x 4m, and as the name would suggest, has all the same features and benefits as the traditional Multimat, the material technology ensuring sand and dirt fall through top of the multimat to the ground below. As you will see below, Caravan World'sown Tim van Duyl put the mat to the test and was not disappointed.

To purchase a CGear mat, or one of CGear's other products, head to the CGear website or through its various stockists, including A247.

Caravan World tested by Tim van Duyl

I had my doubts about the claims CGear made of the Multimat but after three days on Noosa North Shore in Queensland shooting a range of reviews, what impressed me most was the CGear L-shaped Multimat we had around the camper we were using as a mothership.

I was so impressed I ordered one for taking to the beaches of Exmouth, WA, a week later. There and in Noosa, the Multimat did exactly what was expected of it. Dry sand would filter down through the mat meaning our feet were mostly sand-free getting in and out of our tents, motorhome and camper. It is a must-have for anyone planning on beach camping and one of the first things I'll grab when heading to the beach this summer.
